By popular request, we have created KORSHJÄRTA in a new size. KORSHJÄRTA XS has the same familiar design, but in a more delicate format for those who prefer small and understated jewellery.
The larger KORSHJÄRTA necklace is also available set with Finnish spectrolite or red Åland granite. Two Nordic stones with very different characters, giving each piece its own distinctive expression.
A well-made piece of jewellery is meant to be worn – and preferably for many years. But just like other things we use and treasure, jewellery benefits from a little care from time to time.
How to keep your jewellery beautiful for longer
Silver changes naturally over time. When silver reacts with sulphur compounds in its surroundings, the surface can become darker – a natural process known as tarnishing. Substances that accelerate this process can be found in the air, on our skin and in certain cosmetics and perfumes.
This does not mean that there is anything wrong with your jewellery. Usually, it simply needs a little polishing to restore its shine.
Keep your jewellery dry and airtight
When you are not wearing your silver jewellery, store it as airtight as possible, preferably in a small resealable bag. All our jewellery comes with an airtight bag – keep it and use it to store your piece when it is not being worn.
Avoid keeping jewellery in the bathroom. Humidity, warmth and various products make it a poor environment for silver.
Jewellery goes on last and comes off first
A simple old rule is that jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.
Allow moisturiser, perfume, hairspray and other products to dry before putting on your jewellery. Remove it before showering, swimming, using a sauna or exercising.
Polish gently
When silver or gold begins to look dull, a polishing cloth made for jewellery is often all that is needed. If necessary, use a gentle cleaning product intended specifically for silver or gold.
Avoid hard brushes and abrasive cleaners. Jewellery has delicate surfaces, settings and details, and vigorous cleaning can do more harm than good.
Take extra care with pearls and stones
Pearls require particular care. Their surface is more delicate than metal and should not be exposed to strong chemical cleaners. Instead, gently wipe pearls with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
Jewellery with set stones should also be treated carefully. Dirt can collect around the settings, but avoid using hard or sharp objects to remove it.
Oxidation can be part of the design
On some jewellery, dark oxidation is deliberately used to emphasise patterns, recesses and details. In these cases, you should not try to polish away all of the darker areas – they are part of the design.
Take particular care when using chemical silver dips or strong polishing products on antiqued or intentionally oxidised jewellery.
