Fögel

FÖGEL is a piece of jewellery inspired by the Åland archipelago. With its clean, delicate silhouette it captures the bird's free movement over sea and islands – a symbol of freedom, direction and belonging for the birds that return year after year to nest in the archipelago.

The name FÖGEL comes from Föglö, the archipelago municipality in southern Åland whose name can be traced back to the 13th century. It is believed to derive from the German Fyghelde, meaning roughly “the place where there are many birds”. To this day the bird remains a strong symbol for Föglö and appears in the municipality's coat of arms.

In the FÖGEL piece, this history meets a modern design language. Each piece is made in 925 sterling silver or 18K gold, and the pared-back bird silhouette lets the wearer fill the symbol with their own meaning – a reminder of the freedom to follow your own path, or of a longing for home across open water.
