Care advice

To take care of your jewelry yourself, make sure you store it properly and polish it regularly.

Silver oxidizes, i.e. discolors, when it comes into contact with sulphur. Sulphur is present in the air, on the skin, in cigarette smoke, perfumes, etc. In other words, it cannot be avoided. The more humid the air, the faster silver oxidizes.

Tips for prolonging shine

  • Store your silver jewelry in an airtight plastic bag (e.g. a mini-grip bag).
  • Do not store your jewelry in the bathroom, where it is often damp.
  • Always remove your jewelry if you are going to shower, bathe or play sports.
  • Polish the jewelry with a home polish.
  • Avoid chemical cleaning of pearls, as the strong silver polish can corrode the surface of the pearl. If you have to dip even the pearl, just leave it for a few seconds.
  • Keep in mind that chemical cleaning also removes oxidation on the jewellery that is part of the design. Therefore, be extra careful if you use chemical cleaning on antique treated jewelry.

Housewife tips

If you want to be more environmentally friendly, you can use this old trick: line a container with aluminum foil, sprinkle in some bicarbonate of soda or coarse salt, put the jewelry in it and then pour boiling water over it. The trick of brushing with toothpaste also works, but should be used only as an emergency solution as the abrasive in the toothpaste can leave small scratches on your jewelry.

Remember! We always offer free polishing of all our jewelry - when the time comes, bring your Guldviva jewelry to our store in Sjökvarteret, and we'll polish it like new again!
