The model for the jewelry GRACE necklace was the christening jewelry that GULDVIVA was commissioned to create as a gift for the ship's (M / S Viking Grace) godmother.
Maria Karlström, who is the head goldsmith at Guldviva, designed and manufactured the christening jewelry for M/S Viking Grace. These are her thoughts about the jewelry and the creation process:
- The Åland archipelago landscape is an important source of inspiration when I create and design for Guldviva. When you see the finished jewelry, the connection to the Åland nature is often obvious, but the road there is not always straight. And so it is with the christening jewelry.
My starting point was to include what a modern cruise ship consists of; the feeling of a whole world. The eleven floors on M/S Viking Grace were therefore included as separate components in the jewelry. They represent the different rhythms that exist on board – including the stillness.
The natural continuation for my thoughts was the sea. As islanders, we live with the sea. Ships that come, turn, and leave again are a natural part. Almost floating timelessly and safely. I have allowed this to be reflected in the jewelry by contrasting the shape of the waves against the tiers. They are then arranged together in a stricter square shape to give the jewelry a clean design.
The shape and layers of VÅGEN (The Wave) are also arranged to allow for interpretations. Anyone who looks closely can therefore see other shapes hidden in the jewelry...

GLORY is a piece of jewelry in classic goldsmithing tradition, with a design that exudes both timelessness, the maritime connection and gives the traditional an extra little golden edge.
The frame of the jewelry is the maritime rope work that is so synonymous with seafaring. Tied in a half reef knot, it naturally embraces the stormy sea.
In the jewelry's sea dwell wild waves crowned by a set brilliant, whose pinpoint of light resembles the lighthouse that many seafarers have longed to see between the wave crests on the horizon, and finally realize that they will soon be in safe harbor.
