On the golf course with Maria
Maria Karlström – goldsmith, entrepreneur, mother and wife. Life is hectic and she works with what she loves, but sports are also something Maria holds close to her heart. And the longing for the golf course is something truly special.
Golf came into Maria’s life at exactly the right time. Family and business are always the most important, and when the children were younger there was no room for golf in everyday life.
— I started playing 10–11 years ago; I actually bought a golf course for a friend. I decided to take the same course myself and bring the kids along to do something different, and it ended with me being the only one who kept going, says Maria.
On the golf course she has found a hobby that is fun, calming, challenging and just difficult enough to stay interesting. At the same time, golf has become a community and a platform for meeting other like-minded people. Maria believes that golf is the optimal pastime in every respect.
— I can basically travel anywhere in the world and play at any time. I always meet others who feel the same love for the sport. There is always something in common to talk about on the golf course; if nothing else, you can talk about golf itself. It’s an inexhaustible topic, says Maria.

Guldviva’s head goldsmith Maria Karlström was given the honor of making the winner’s trophy for the golf tournament Åland 100 Ladies Open by Ålandsbanken.
The trophy is handmade in recycled 925 sterling silver, where Maria has bent and shaped around forty of Guldviva’s signature piece BLOMMAN™ and assembled them in the shape of a golf ball.
— It is a completely unique trophy and a piece of work that has taken a great deal of time, says Maria Karlström, who is herself a golfer.
From 1–3 September, Ålands Golfklubb is hosting Åland 100 Ladies Open by Ålandsbanken as part of the Ladies European Tour. The tournament is played on the Slottsbanan course in Kastelholm, where 126 players from the world elite of golf compete for the coveted trophy.
Maria has previously created the GOLF collection for Guldviva, which is highly appreciated and widely used within the Nordic golf community.
