EVA – the jewellery collection carrying a story

Our EVA collection is so much more than just beautiful jewellery. Each piece is a handcrafted work carrying an important story.

But Eva, who is she really?

Our EVA jewellery collection was inspired by the woman behind the power of the potato, namely Eva Ekeblad.

Eva Ekeblad was a Swedish countess born in Stockholm at the beginning of the 18th century. But Eva was not only a countess, she was also a scientist like no other! Eva was in fact the person who discovered how to produce starch from potatoes and, through this, how to make spirits (a drink that was quite popular even at that time...) Eva then became the first woman to be elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1748.

Guldviva’s head goldsmith and founder, Maria Karlström, came across this incredible story about Eva Ekeblad and created a ring inspired by the tale. Maria entered the ring she created into the competition “Finland’s Most Beautiful Ring”, and even took home the win! Guldviva’s EVA ring can therefore now proudly bear the title of nothing less than Finland’s Most Beautiful Ring 2022, an honour we at Guldviva are very proud of.

After the EVA ring came to life, we naturally wanted to create matching jewellery that could be worn in honour of Eva Ekeblad. There is now an entire collection dedicated to this wise woman, who made such an important and historic discovery about something humans have lived with for so long – the potato.

So, head out into our potato patch and see all the beauty in the simple things!
